PALM SPRINGS MID-CENTURY MARVEL
PROJECT BRIEF
This 1972 Charles DuBois home underwent a three-year gut renovation that reinterpreted its original midcentury architecture through a contemporary lens. Designed as both a private residence and an interior design showroom and event space, the home’s compartmentalized floor plan was transformed into an open environment centered on connection, entertaining, and expansive mountain views. Hoiland Studios developed an architectural lighting strategy that complements the home’s clean lines and contemporary materials while honoring its midcentury character. Mudded-in recessed fixtures integrate discreetly into the ceilings, keeping the focus on the architecture and interiors. In the primary bath, a linear fixture above the tub softly washes the wall beneath the skylight, creating an atmospheric glow after dark. Warm-dim lighting throughout the home shifts the atmosphere from everyday living to intimate entertaining. Concealed color-changing lighting along the living room’s upper transom windows and at the bar adds a playful layer for gatherings. Together, these layers balance architectural restraint with the versatility of a home designed for both private life and lively events.
