WINNETKA MODERN
PROJECT BRIEF
Originally designed as a 12,000+ square-foot modern home focused on entertainment and recreation, the new homeowners preserved many of its striking architectural details while transforming the interior to reflect their vibrant lifestyle. In areas undergoing a significant renovation where ceilings were removed, particularly in the kitchen and family room, Hoiland Studios specified round, flangeless recessed lights to maintain the home’s clean, minimalist ceiling aesthetic. In areas where the original ceilings remained intact, Hoiland Studios specified new trims and light bulbs to harmonize with the quality and style of the other updated fixtures throughout the home. One of the most notable transformations was the conversion of the former indoor pool house, with its exposed wood ceiling, into an ultimate recreation space. This space now includes a golf simulation room, billiards table, bar, seating area, and media room. Hoiland Studios cleverly concealed linear LEDs with asymmetric optics along the base of the transom windows, creating an even wash of light across the ceiling. In addition, exposed conduit was artfully integrated along the non-dominant side of the beam, supporting both decorative and monopoint fixtures. The result is an elegant, functional lighting design that not only enhances the architecture but also elevates the space’s dynamic recreational ambiance.
