PROJECT BRIEF

Perched atop the ridge line within the exclusive Rock Creek Cattle Company community in Montana, this 8,500+ square-foot retreat masterfully marries rustic charm with sophisticated design, offering sweeping mountain views from every room.  Collaborating closely with the client and a design team spanning across the United States, Hoiland Studios developed a bespoke lighting strategy that enhances the home’s architectural elements and highlights the client’s curated art collection.  The recessed light specifications were carefully chosen for their 45-degree adjustability, essential for the pitched ceiling in the great room.  These fixtures were paired with sleek monopoints from the same fixture manufacturer to ensure consistent light quality between fixture types, highlighting both the art collection and the stone fireplace. In-floor uplights were strategically placed to illuminate the rich textures of the stone walls, casting a warm, inviting glow through the central gallery from the primary suite to the kitchen.  This subtle lighting also serves as a soft nightlight, perfect for guiding the client on a midnight journey to the kitchen.  The bar area features a balanced mix of decorative and functional lighting, with recessed accents and wall washers creating an intimate ambiance, ideal for after-dinner drinks.  As the project neared completion, the client was so pleased with the results that they invited Hoiland Studios to upgrade the lighting in their Arizona home as well — the highest compliment a design team could receive.
