SERVICES: FULL-SERVICE LIGHTING DESIGN

We believe lighting is the best supporting actor to a well-designed space so we develop a lighting plan specifically tailored to the project by responding to the architectural aesthetic, supporting the function of the space, and addressing the client’s specific lighting preferences.

TYPICAL SCOPE OF WORK:

In order to accomplish the above, we will prepare and deliver the following services:

DESIGN PHASE:

Initial Lighting Design Meeting

During our initial lighting design meeting with the design team and/or client, we will determine the design direction, level of finish desired in each area, preference for lighting control, project schedule, project budget, and the client’s specific lighting preferences. This meeting may occur on-site, at the design team’s office, or via Zoom.

Lighting Design Development

Once we understand the design direction, we will research appropriate fixtures for each space, run photometric calculations in a software called AGi to confirm the lumen output and beam optics required (if needed), request fixture samples (if needed), mock up fixtures internally to ensure they perform well for the proposed location, gather fixture specification sheets, collect concept images to support our design ideas, and draw a preliminary lighting plan in CAD. We will review the decorative lighting specifications selected by the interior designer or client to verify the lighting requirements, sizing, and lamping will be adequate for the space as they are selected. We will also review the lighting control requirements with the design team and AV contractor.

Lighting Design Internal Review Meeting

It is extremely important that our design is seamlessly integrated into the design team’s vision. We will meet with the design team internally to review their further developed design, material selections, and furniture layout with our preliminary lighting plan. This meeting may occur on-site, at the design team’s office, or via Zoom. After the meeting, we will update the lighting plan and fixture specifications, as necessary.

Lighting Design Presentation Meeting

We will meet with the client and design team to review the lighting plan, fixture specifications, fixture samples, and concept images in detail. This meeting may occur on-site, at the design team’s office, or via Zoom. After the meeting, we will update the lighting plan and fixture specifications, as necessary. If the interior design direction changes or if additional trades are hired after our presentation meeting which requires us to revise our design, additional meetings and updates to the lighting plan may be necessary.

Lighting Design Construction Documentation

With a clear lighting plan in place, we will draw integrated lighting details, dimension the fixture locations, and add installation notes to the lighting plan in CAD. We will also create a lighting load schedule for clear coordination of lighting control with the electrician and AV consultant.

Lighting Control Keypad Scene Design

All lighting control locations will be reviewed during the Lighting Design Presentation Meeting. Once an AV contractor is hired and a lighting control system is confirmed, we will design how the keypad buttons will function. We will meet with the client to review the scenes on each keypad to confirm how they will function. This meeting may occur on-site or via Zoom.

Lighting Control Scene Programming Design

When the scenes on each keypad are approved by the client, we will assign light levels to each scene and send the document to the AV contractor for integration into the lighting control system software.

Lighting Fixture Pricing Review

Prior to the purchase and installation of any light fixtures or accessories, we will review all lighting-related quotes and/or submittals from the electrical contractor or distributor to ensure accuracy. If quotes and/or submittals are not provided to us for review, we do not take responsibility for errors in the fixture order.

CONSTRUCTION PHASE:

Coordination Meetings during Construction

We will meet with the contractor and the electrical contractor to review the lighting plan and fixture specifications in detail before they begin work. During construction, we will meet with the design team, contractor, and electrician on-site to review the light fixture locations before the electricians pull wire to ensure all fixtures are located correctly. If there are structural conflicts, we will adjust our lighting plan and specifications as required to maintain the integrity of the design. Due to the size of the project and contractor’s fixture installation schedule, more than one meeting may be required to complete a thorough review of the lighting fixture installation between trades. We will issue updates, as needed, after each meeting.

Millwork Shop Drawing Review

For areas requiring integrated lighting, we will review the millwork shop drawings prior to production to confirm the integrated lighting details and fixture specifications. Depending on the number of integrated lighting details on the project, this process may require one or more meetings with the interior designer, architect, millworker, or general contractor. Meetings may occur on-site or via Zoom.

Contractor Request for Information

We will be available to answer questions throughout the construction phase and provide written instruction and lighting plan updates to the contractor and/or design team, as needed.

*We understand the need for complete and timely information, drawings, and specifications, and conduct our operations accordingly. If additional meetings are required due to inadequate or slow contractors, we will address the issue with the general contractor, design team, and client to determine the best way to proceed.

PROJECT CLOSEOUT PHASE:

Light Fixture Aiming Diagram

As the electrical contractor approach the completion of the light fixture installation, we will provide a light fixture aiming diagram to the electrical contractor so they can easily aim the adjustable fixtures on tall ladders and lifts, as necessary, before the furniture and art is in place.

Installation Review Meeting

Towards the end of the project, we will meet with the electrical contractor to confirm all light fixtures are installed and functioning properly. We will distribute a written punch list for fixtures needing additional attention and coordinate with the appropriate parties to complete the work.

Light Fixture Aiming Meeting

We will meet with the electrical contractor on-site to review and adjust all adjustable light fixtures when the furniture and art is in place. The electrician must provide a ladder at an appropriate height to reach all fixtures. This meeting typically occurs in the evening to ensure the fixtures are aimed properly. It may need to occur in more than one meeting depending on the size of the project and the speed of the electrician. Additional electricians will be requested, if needed.

Lighting Control Tweaking Meeting

Once the light fixture aiming is completed and all light fixtures are functioning properly on the lighting control system, we will meet with the AV contractor on-site to confirm the lighting control system is programmed correctly and review and adjust the light levels on each scene to meet the client’s preferences. This meeting typically occurs in the afternoon and evening to review the lighting levels in daylight and after sunset.

We look forward to the opportunity of working with you!
